The first virtual reality app from the first music streaming service.
We’re excited to unveil the latest project we’ve launched — Rhapsody VR, a virtual reality (VR) app that immerses you in a live concert experience by dropping you onstage with the artists.
Rhapsody VR is available on iOS and Android and works best with Google Cardboard viewers. Rhapsody VR features exclusive live performances, including Talib Kweli’s classic “Get By” and two performances by the up-and-coming Flatbush Zombies, “Bath Salt” and “Bounce.” All you need to get started is to download the Rhapsody VR app, browse videos and drop your phone into a VR viewer (if you don’t have a VR viewer, you can still enjoy a 360º video experience with your phone).
What’s all the hype about VR, you ask? Aside from VR being one of the coolest innovations since…well, streaming music was first introduced (OK, we’re a little a biased), we’re especially excited to roll out the first music-focused VR app because:
- Music lovers around the world can experience a live concert for free from anywhere — the comfort of their home, their local watering hole, or wherever they have a cellular or WiFi connection*
- Musicians can share live performances with more fans in a unique, 360º visually immersive way, expanding their base of listeners and sharing more music with the world
Other artists featured in our VR app include The Blind Shake, Low Cut Connie, Big Ups, Eli “Paperboy” Reed, Sweet Spirit and Shannon and The Clams. We will add fresh content every month, so check back on our blog — or watch the app — for updates.
360º video filming and more was provided by Minneapolis-based virtual reality company Visual, whose founder Chuck Olsen worked closely with the Rhapsody team on Rhapsody VR. “360º video is emerging as an exciting way to experience music and entertainment, and it’s been awesome to work with the future-thinking musicheads at Rhapsody,” Olsen said.
Download the free VR app today from Apple’s App Store or Google Play store. And be sure to check us out on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for upcoming VR viewer giveaways.
