On the heels of major expansion in Europe, Rhapsody International is excited to announce Napster’s expansion into Latin America. Napster is now available to music lovers in Brazil and coming soon to Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. This expansion receives a significant boost thanks to a major global partnership with Telefónica Digital. The deal, which is one of the largest in digital music in terms of global reach and customer base, expands the global footprint of Napster substantially throughout Latin America and Europe.
Here’s what it means:
• Telefónica’s Terra subsidiary will replace its Sonora music service with Napster, providing customers with access to millions of tracks worth of new musical content for the same price or less. Sonora is one of the largest subscription music services in Latin America with customers in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Mexico.
• Telefónica Digital will be able to offer bundled Napster music services to its hundreds of millions of subscribers across its global footprint
• Rhapsody has established an office in Sao Paulo to support this deal and future commercial launches for Napster throughout Latin America.
• As part of this announcement, Napster is now also available to customers in Brazil via br.napster.com. Customers can access music online through their smartphones, tablets or PCs, for $6.85 USD each month. Napster is offering a free seven-day trial to new members in Brazil.
