Napster, Vera Project Partner to Present Rapper Mackned

Mackned
West Seattle native Mackned performs at The Vera Project Saturday, Oct. 1

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Saturday, Oct. 1 concert has been cancelled due to illness. Information about a rescheduled show will be posted here when it is available.

Everyone has a favorite artist. Whether it’s a yet-to-be-discovered hometown act or an international success, when that artist hits your city you want to see them live.

It’s easy to catch your favorite act, especially if you’re 21 or older since most clubs have age restrictions. Thankfully, Seattle’s The Vera Project launched 15 years ago to create an all-ages venue where teenagers and young adults can catch local up-and-coming acts.

I have fans that come in all forms, sizes and ages — it’s good to show love to kids who can’t get into 21+ shows

When The Vera Project started, it just so happened that a tech start-up focused on streaming music also emerged and the decades-plus partnership between Napster, The Vera Project and other local music businesses (think Sub Pop) was born. Since then Napster’s ongoing relationship with local artists and organizations continues to help support emerging artists.

These partnerships have been a boon to the Seattle music business scene and local artists hoping to reach a young audience. In keeping with its mission to support local musicians, Napster and The Vera Project are thrilled to present Seattle rapper Mackned on Saturday, Oct. 1. Mackned will be joined by other local acts Lil Tracy, Horse Head and Cam the Mac.

“The Vera Project is important to me because it’s all ages,” Mackned says. “I have fans that come in all forms, sizes and ages so it’s good to show love to kids who usually can’t get into 21-plus shows.

“It’s also been a staple of the Seattle scene for a long time and The Vera Project gives artists, big and small, an opportunity to showcase their talents.”

In addition to supporting artists on stage through partnerships with similar music-minded organizations, Napster has always made it a mission to support independent artists through its streaming service, where any artist can add their music to the Napster platform — and stream it globally!

And West Seattle native Mackned knows this well: After only three years on the scene, he’s rapidly expanding beyond his hometown, building a presence on the scene in California, and his Napster artist page provides him with the outlet to reach global music lovers.

Mackned also co-founded Thraxxhouse, a collective of 17 rappers that stretches up and down the West Coast, and is a member of the Seattle crew Moor Gang, who tout themselves as a “collective of everyone’s favorite rappers.” With Saturday’s show at The Vera Project, Mackned makes a welcome return to a hometown stage and fans of all ages can join in!
